GOATS

It’s hard not to fall in love with a goat!

We became interested in goats when my friend started raising Alpine dairy goats. Her dairy goats were big and strong. I already had big and strong sheep, and didn’t need big and strong goats. The Nigerian Dwarf goat was the perfect solution!

The Nigerian Dwarf is a naturally miniature goat breed of African decent. Related to the Pygmy which is a small meat goat, the Nigerian Dwarf is the dairy goat relative. These goats are ideal for someone that wants goats but has a small space. You can have two of these in a large backyard with a small shelter, water and forage.

Goats prefer leaves but will eat grass and some plants if that is what is available. Hay can be fed year-round if greens are in short supply. We primarily raise goats for pets, browsers and fun.

Smaller size is also less intimidating for small children. I do not raise for production or show. Milking goats is a daily commitment. We advise some education before buying your first goat. There are goat books available at the library and valuable information on the internet. There are goat shows at county and state fairs where you can talk with breeders. Educate yourself on parasite management and herd animals (you need at least two). A good starting place would be a doe and a wether (castrated male).

We don’t breed every year, so check back here or email for any available kids.

There are no goats available for sale at this time.
